About Me

Hi! I’m JO

LIVING INTENTIONALLY, ONE DAY AT A TIME

do you want A life THAT’S filled with what REALLY MATTERS TO YOU? IF SO, YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

My name’s Jo and I’m on a journey towards a slow, more simple life. I’m very interested in the Slow Living movement, and I draw a lot upon Minimalism and Essentialism to bring more mindfulness and intention to how I live.

For me, Minimalism is about being mindful and intentional of the physical possessions I purchase; I want them to have a function and purpose. And yes, if a particular item does nothing more than look nice, that’s a perfectly valid purpose for me! However, this doesn’t mean I buy everything I like, and this discernment means I get so much more enjoyment from the things I do buy.

Essentialism is similar to Minimalism but it’s not about mindfulness or intention of physical objects; it’s being intentional about how I spend my time.

Two elements of Essentialism that I come back to regularly are: 1) If you’re saying “yes” to something, you’re saying “no” to another. I was a people pleaser for many years, saying “yes” to things more to please others. Because of this, I was saying “no” to things that would have made me happy.

The second element is Learning to ‘uncommit’ from the things you’re not longer passionate about. I’ve invested a lot of time, energy, and sometimes money on projects where I lost the passion part-way through. Sometimes I pushed through and it worked out for the best, but mostly I wish I’d stopped and focused on something I really wanted to do.
